Applications Of Modern Geodetic Techniques In Maritime Projects
Abstract. Recent developments in the technology of geodetic measuring equipment had a significant impact on the speed and
accuracy of observations and computations related to the derived quantities in Maritime projects.
The setting out of precise control networks, the accurate navigation during Bathymetric surveys and the precise measurements of the
settlement of preloaded areas are typical applications encountered during the construction of Maritime projects.
In this paper, the experience gained during the construction of Port Said East Port in Egypt is explained where appropriate
techniques were implemented to derive the quantities of dredged materials and also to monitor the ground settlement of an
inaccessible preloaded terminal area with a view to derive the geotechnical characteristics of the area. In this respect, a special
technique had to be devised and implement comprising the design of a special target together with the developments of a criteria for
the measuring and data processing of the settlement values.
